The Tiergarten<\/b> (formal German name: Gro\u00dfer Tiergarten<\/b>) is Berlin<\/a>\u2019s most popular inner-city park,<\/sup> located completely in the district of the same name<\/a>.<\/p>\n The park is located on the northern and central side of Tiergarten<\/a> Ortsteil<\/i> and is bordered, on the northern side, by the river Spree<\/a>. The little quarter Hansaviertel<\/a> borders on it at the north-western side and the Zoological Garden<\/a> is situated on the south-western side. The principal road is the Stra\u00dfe des 17. Juni<\/a><\/i> which ends, in the east, at the Brandenburg Gate<\/a>. Other main roads are the Altonaer Stra\u00dfe<\/i>, Spreeweg<\/i> and Hofj\u00e4gerallee<\/i>. In the middle of the park is the square named Gro\u00dfer Stern<\/a><\/i> (“Great Star”) with the Siegess\u00e4ule<\/a><\/i> (Victory column) located in its centre. In addition to the Brandenburg Gate, other notable buildings and structures located close to the park are the Soviet War Memorial<\/a>, the Reichstag<\/a>, the Bundestag<\/a> (all in the eastern borders), the new central railway station<\/a> (in the north) and, on the southeastern borders, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe<\/a>, the Memorial to the Sinti and Roma victims of National Socialism<\/a> and the central square of Potsdamer Platz<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the northerly neighbouring quarter of Moabit<\/a> a much smaller park bears the same name, thus both are differentiated as Gro\u00dfer and Kleiner Tiergarten<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Tiergarten has an area of around 210 hectares (520 acres), and after Tempelhofer Freiheit<\/a>, it is the second biggest parkland in Berlin and the third biggest inner-city parkland in Germany.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Tiergarten (formal German name: Gro\u00dfer Tiergarten) is Berlin\u2019s most popular inner-city park, located completely in the district of the same name.
